The reasons for the selectionof the candidate
Selection shall be with reference to the qualifications, achievements and merit of the Candidate, and not mere "winnability" at the Polls |
Comrade KR Narayanan has earned recognition and respect not only in the district but in Tamil Nadu and all over India, for his role in leading movements for the equality and dignity of Dalits and oppressed castes. He has led temple entry movements, movements against the feudal "Naadu" system of caste councils, and other anti-feudal struggles. |

Reasons as to why other individuals without criminal antecedents could not be selected as candidates |
Comrade KR Narayanan is not a criminal. He was falsely implicated and convicted in a case pertaining to struggle against caste oppression of Dalits in Devakottai of Sivaganga district, a struggle in which another comrade, Subbu, was martyred. As a close associate of Comrade Subbu and as an innocent person who served jail time for leading struggles against casteism, there can be no better candidate than KR Narayanan. |
