Breaking the anti-people ‘consensus’ in favour of the GST Bill, CPI(ML) MLAs in Bihar and Jharkhand walked out of their respective State Assemblies on the day of the GST Vote. Comrades Mehboob Alam and Sudama Prasad in Bihar and Comrade Raj Kumar Yadav in Jharkhand said that the GST would undermine federalism; restrict rights of state governments to adjust taxation and public spending to suit the specific socio-economic needs of the people of different states; displace small producers and centralize the indirect tax regime in a manner that will favour big capital and increase burdens on working class and poor people.
